“Yashasvi Jaiswal reminds me a lot of…” Chris Gayle compares the Indian opener to a former West Indies legend
The fourth Test of the five-match series between India and England is going on at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium in Ranchi where Ben Stokes has won the toss and elected to bat first.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has emerged as a superstar in this series as he has amassed 545 runs in just six innings at an average of 109 which includes two double centuries and a half-century in the series and former West Indies batter and legend Chris Gayle has lauded the 22-year-old youngster for his brilliant performance against England.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has smashed double centuries in consecutive Tests in Vizag and Rajkot as he scored 209 in the first innings in Vizag and then 214* in the second innings in Rajkot.
Jaiswal only needs 139 runs to complete 1000 runs in Test cricket and if he achieves this feat in the ongoing Test in Ranchi then he will become the fastest Indian batter and the second-fastest batter in the world to reach 1000 runs in Test cricket.
Chris Gayle praised Yashasvi Jaiswal saying that it looks like the lad has been playing for 20 years. Gayle called him an aggressive version of his former West Indies teammate Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is an attacking player and he should not change his nature according to Gayle. Chris Gayle has also been an aggressive cricketer and is one of the best left-handed batters that the sport has seen in its history.
“It’s like the guy (Yashasvi Jaiswal) has been playing for 20 years, unbelievable. I just hope he can keep it up. He reminds me a lot of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, a more attacking version of him. A lot will be expected of him as he goes on but they should just let him continue to flow. He’s an attacking player, you see that in his T20 cricket as well…That’s in his nature as well and they shouldn’t try to curb him or try to change him,” said Chris Gayle.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is only 139 runs away from reaching 1000 Test runs
Yashasvi Jaiswal has amassed 861 runs in just seven Test matches as of now in his Test career. He boasts an average of 71.75 and has smashed three centuries and two half-centuries. All three centuries smashed by him are 150+ scores which includes two double centuries.
He only needs 139 runs to reach 1000 runs in Test cricket. Yashasvi Jaiswal has already smashed 22 sixes in the ongoing series which is a record for an Indian in a Test series whereas he needs 230 runs to become the Indian batter to score most runs in a Test series.
Sunil Gavaskar currently holds the record of scoring the most runs in a Test series for India as he scored 774 runs against West Indies in 1970/71. Virat Kohli comes second in this list who scored 655 against England in 2016/17.
Yashasvi Jaiswal can go ahead in the ongoing series as he needs 230 runs to beat the record and he has four innings left to play which is enough for him to reach the milestone and he is in sensational form this series.
