Genesis will no longer offer the Electrified G80 in the U.S. market, a brand representative confirmed. The electric sedan, which per InsideEVs reporting no longer appears on the company’s consumer website, was discontinued before the arrival of the facelifted model, and the final new Electrified G80 found a home in July. Genesis says the decision to cancel the smart-looking Electrified G80 was made due to changing consumer tastes and market conditions, which sounds like corporate-speak for limited demand and moving-target tariffs.

A Slightly Compromised Electric Vehicle

Designed from the outset with an electric propulsion system in mind, the G80 lineup nonetheless is primarily an internal combustion vehicle. As a result, its Electrified variant isn’t quite as well-rounded as its four- and six-cylinder siblings. For example, the floor-mounted battery reduces head- and legroom in the rear seat, meaning the formerly cosseting luxury sedan felt a bit cramped for the elites riding in the back seat. Trunk space also took a hit in the Electrified G80, falling from 13.1 cubic feet to 10.8.

But despite those trade-offs, the Electrified G80 was still rather enjoyable to drive, thanks to a low center of gravity that gave it athletic handling and a dual-motor powertrain that made a compelling 365 horsepower and 516 pound-feet. What’s more, the 87.2-kilowatt-hour battery enabled a range of 282 miles, and it could recharge at a rate of up to 191 kilowatts on a DC fast charger, meaning it could add 200 miles of range in about 25 minutes. The Electrified G80 also retained the gasoline car’s immaculately finished interior and graceful styling – enhanced with a mostly closed-off front “grille” finished in diamond-shaped brightwork.

Slow Sales And Tariffs May Have Done The G80 EV In

Genesis didn’t describe exactly why it discontinued the Electrified G80, but a brand representative said that the company would “adapt to ever-changing customer needs and market conditions.” Given the wording, we suspect that limited demand and the threat of tariffs may have been the nails in the coffin. Built in Ulsan, South Korea, the Electrified G80 isn’t as insulated from economic uncertainties as the Electrified GV70 crossover, which undergoes final assembly in Alabama.

Furthermore, although Genesis sedans have been selling pretty well the past few months, the limited-availalbility Electrified G80 hasn’t done the numbers of its internal-combustion sibling or crossover-shaped GV70 EV. The automaker announced it had sold the final Electrified G80 in July, which was a 2025 model. The facelifted 2026 Electrified G80 will apparently not be offered in the U.S., although the automaker didn’t specifically rule out its return sometime in the future, saying instead that it didn’t have details on future availability at the moment.
