Eoin Morgan Backs Rinku Singh-Like Indian Player To Spark Bidding War

Former England skipper Eoin Morgan backed Tamil Nadu batter Shahrukh Khan to get a huge amount in the IPL 2024 auction. He believes that the all-rounder can bat in Rinku Singh’s model of finishing the innings.

Shahrukh Khan will be one of the players who will be under the radar of some of the big franchises in the IPL auction. The hard-hitting batter could be a game-changer for any team and with him being in form, he’s likely to fetch a good amount of money.

Shahrukh Khan’s ability to finish the innings and go after the bowlers right from the start will make him attractive to all the teams. It won’t be a surprise if there is a bidding war between many teams for the Tamil Nadu batter in the auction.

Shahrukh Khan, who was part of Punjab Kings for the last seasons, played a decent role for the team in both editions. However, ahead of the IPL 2024, he was released by the team and it surprised many.

Eoin Morgan during an interaction with the Times of India made a bold claim and said that Shahrukh Khan could sparka bidding war in the auction. He pointed out that the batter can be destructive. He stated:

“He’s obviously been in fine form. He’s taken some wickets recently as well. When he’s in form, he’s so destructive and then players who can bat in that sort of Rinku Singh model of finishing could potentially create a bidding war.”

Shahrukh Khan played 14 matches in the IPL 2023 for the Punjab Kings and made a great impact for the team. He mustered 156 runs at a strike rate of 165.96 and played some vital cameos for the team.

Shahrukh Khan would be hoping that Eoin Morgan’s prediction for him comes true when his name comes in the auction. It’s likely that Chennai Super Kings might go for him because they were interested in him previously as well.

IPL 2024 Auction: I don’t see many of the batters going for huge amounts of money – Eoin Morgan

Eoin Morgan believes that batters won’t be in demand in the IPL 2024 auction because teams have got their top order sorted. He said that bowlers will be getting huge bids as the majority of the teams don’t have that department settled. He explained:

“I think when you look at the teams that I suppose are coming into tomorrow’s auction, the top order in pretty much all of the teams are already fulfilled. So in that regard, I don’t see many of the batters going for huge amounts of money. Obviously, Harry Brook is going to be in there and will be sold after the likes of Phil Salt from an English point of view as well.

“But the way most of the sides are set up, the top order are mainly cemented moving forward. So you’d imagine going for the bowlers primarily because sides need pace bowlers more so than say wrist spinners and mystery spinners.”

IPL 2024 auction will take place on Tuesday (19th December) at Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena. A total of 333 players are set to go under the hammer and there are 77 slots vacant.
