Lego Ferrari FXX K Launches With Reasonable Price

Basically any model kit of a Ferrari will be substantially more affordable than the real thing, so this Lego Technic kit was going to clear that hurdle almost by default. Lego kits, though, aren’t always that affordable, especially the Technic kits, which can be large with intricate mechanisms for working steering, moving pistons, and more. For example, Lego has a Lamborghini Sián kit with a fully functional eight-speed transmission, and it costs more than $400. Fortunately for your wallet, this new Ferrari FXX K kit is far more modest in scope and price, and comes in at just $64.99.

Nearly 900 Pieces Of Fun

With 897 individual pieces, the FXX K kit is dramatically smaller than the Sian kit, which has more than 3,000 pieces. This is the major factor in the Ferrari being far more affordable. It’s still a sizable model, though, as when it’s completed, it measures 11 inches long, 3 inches tall, and 4.5 inches wide. At that size, it also will look just right next to many other similarly-sized Technic kits of cars such as the Aston Martin Valkyrie, Koenigsegg Jesko, and Bugatti Bolide among others. They all have similar prices ranging from $49.99 to $64.99, so you can easily create and collect a little plastic supercar collection.

Also, despite having a smaller selection of pieces, the FXX K still has some signature Technic functionality. The doors open up in the same butterfly fashion as the real car. It has a tiny V12 with pistons that move up and down as the car rolls forward. It even has a real differential for the rear wheels and steering for the front wheels. The tiny engine doesn’t have a plastic version of the real car’s hybrid motor, nor the electronic controls for the limited-slip differential, but Lego had to draw the line somewhere, especially for the price and size. The kit is available to order now, and kits will begin shipping and showing up in stores starting on August 1.

You probably can’t afford the real thing, so this should suffice.

A Reminder Of How Monstrous The FXX K Was

It’s hard to believe, but the FXX K was revealed more than a decade ago. It was a track-only version of the Ferrari LaFerrari, and was a direct successor to the Ferrari Enzo-based FXX. At the heart of it was a hopped-up version of the LaFerrari powertrain with a naturally aspirated V12 and supplemental electric motor. Combined, the FXX K made 1,036 horsepower, an extra hundred over the 935-hp LaFerrari. Much of the power increase came from upgrades to the V12 such as different cam profiles, and freer flowing intake and exhaust tracts.

The body was reshaped for 50% more downforce. Ferrari claimed it would generate more than 1,000 pounds of downforce at 124 mph. Fewer than 40 were built, and they each cost around $3 million. It would’ve been the ultimate version of the LaFerrari, except Ferrari then created an even crazier FXX K Evoluzione a few years later. Still, the FXX K is one of the more outrageous supercars ever built, and it’s more than worthy of being immortalized in colorful plastic.
